Like just about everyone else, I grew up with a fear of flying. A personal situation forced me to confront my fears and what I learned I decided to share with the world. While many people are hung up on flight safety, for me (and everyone else it seems) it was turbulence that was the scary unknown. Over a winter break in 2005, I did some research and discovered that the government issued some turbulence maps and I was hooked. I knew that I had to share these with other people.
I founded Turbulence Forecast in late 2005, and at that time I had no idea of what it would become. The first few months it was out, I served about 25,000 page views and I thought that was neat. In December 2019 I reached a new traffic milestone with 1.1 million page views in a month. Growth continues. In 2020 I hired a new developer and every part of the site will be upgraded and enhanced for the biggest changes yet. In 2015 I started to sell my expertise in forecasting turbulence for nervous fliers. In 2017 I forecasted over 1,700 flights. In 2019 I forecasted over 2,200 flights. The site was initially featured in salon.com, which led to an article in the New York Times. Over the years I've appeared on Fox News and CNN to discuss the site, and also appeared again in the Washington Post. |
